Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne is a world-first ecosanctuary based in Wellington, New Zealand, protecting rare native species in an enclosed valley. While it’s well-loved locally, they wanted to grow both visitation and ongoing support through memberships - without relying on one-size-fits-all campaigns.

Zealandia needed a partner to help drive targeted digital performance, improve conversion tracking, and upskill their team so they could continue to thrive in-house too.

The Strategy

Aro Digital have been working alongside Zealandia since 2021 to support digital growth and build long-term capability.

In 2022–2023, we overhauled their Google Grant structure, launched full-funnel Meta campaigns with retargeting, and began testing creative formats like memes and wildlife video clips. In 2024–2025, we took things even further with:

  • Performance Max (PMAX) campaigns on Google Ads, fine-tuned to drive quality traffic and contacts
  • Prospecting and retargeting Meta campaigns - including their corporate memberships, twilight and dawn tours, and seasonal events.
  • Ongoing content strategy input to align ad creative with storytelling
  • Custom tracking setups via GA4, Raisely, and Shopify to ensure every purchase or membership was visible
  • Monthly performance kōrero (reporting chats) to review results and decide next steps
  • Hands-on education sessions to empower the Zealandia team with ad, SEO, and tracking skills

We also provided strategic input into their new website build, ensuring migration plans, redirects, and GA4 setups were ready to go.

The Results

Over 12 months of collaborative mahi, we’ve helped Zealandia increase ticket sales, reach more audiences, and reduce CPA across both paid search and social.

  • 📈 114% YoY increase in online ticket purchases (May 2025 vs May 2024)
  • 💰 47% decrease in Meta CPA (Cost Per Acquisition) between April & May 2025
  • 🦤 65 Meta purchases in May 2025 alone - with top-performing ads costing as little as $11 per conversion
  • 🔄 524% YoY increase in paid search conversions in February 2025
  • 🧠 3+ internal education sessions run by the Aro Digital team — covering SEO, GA4, Meta, and Google Ads
  • 🧪 A/B tests across imagery, messaging, and memes to optimise results.
